Graham Brown Band songs
Today I have the honour of writing about ‘Graham Brown Band’ and their music, for it truly is just that, a privilege and an honour to be encompassed by this band! They have a deep love of freedom for their beloved Scotland. So much so that this album I am listening to is an entire collection of their very best songs to date on the subject! Who better than this very talented and accomplished group to export what they already grow at home, both in their lives as well as the lyrics in their anthems. With verses that espouse the fundamental cry in the heart of every person, the cry of freedom, I know these musicians will get their message out there for so many who want, need and deserve the same opportunity. I hear the heart cry in songs like ‘Jack’ ….”don’t you think I’ve given enough, do you think that my name is Jack? If You’re going to throw it all away, I’m not coming back ….so keep this lowly dollar and give me my dignity back”……….
Scotland has lived for so many centuries with severity and maltreatment of the most heinous sort! I have read enough in reputable sources, personal journals from the past as well as written books by authoritative sources and spoken truth on the subject to realise that no one can make this stuff up! I have seen first hand, the lives of those who are now many generations out and with enough understanding of human dignity to see that these histories are true! Margaret Bennett talks of such despotism while telling her story on the grieving and the loss of her son. What she said pierced my heart with such honesty I have never forgotten it, she said ‘on the one hand it’s bit paradoxical, we’re not very vocal when it comes to speaking up, we’ve had a history of that kind of oppression, but when it comes to song, what you can’t say you can often sing. I sometimes think of it as the Gaelic equivalent of the Blues, music is a great consolation. When you can express nothing else you can sing, music is a great solace it’s the only thing that can reach to touch that deep deep pain.” Truly the songs I am listening to by Graham Brown Band bring these legitimacies to the fore of every Scot’s mind, those still blessed to be living there, as well as the countless millions of expats around the world~ I’d encourage every freedom loving person to give this fantastic band a good long listen. Absorb the truths herein and maybe by the next elections a Yes Vote will be won!
